ARTICLE VI - SUNDAY SCHOOL
A. Function. It shall be
the function of the Sunday School to lead souls to Christ, to instruct
believers in the Word of God, and to prepare its attendees for part in the
permanent fellowship of the church. The Sunday School, or any other
organization of the church, shall not consider itself a separate organization
from the church, but a part of the church itself, and it shall act and
cooperate with the church in all its functions.
B. Officers. The officers
of the Sunday School shall be the Superintendent (a two year term) and Asst.
Superintendent (a one year term), the Secretary and Asst. ~Secretary, and the
Treasurer who is the one elected to handle all church monies. These shall be
elected at the annual meeting of the church. The Sunday School Superintendent
and his Assistants shall subscribe without reservation to the Articles of
Faith and be of high moral and spiritual stature as they will be responsible
for the supervision of the Christian Education program of the church. Choice
of books and literature, classes and teachers, shall be determined by them
together with the Pastor and subject to the approval of the Elders.
C. Teachers. All teachers
shall give evidence of a thorough conversion, shall live lives of separation
from the world, and shall be faithful in attendance of the regular services
of the church and the Sunday School board meetings. All teachers shall abide
by the Articles of Faith. If there are areas of differences, the prospective
teacher must make known to the Elders any reservations they may have about
the Articles of Faith, and agree not to discuss those reservations with those
they will be teaching, or to stir up any divisions or controversy within the
church. In each case the Elders must give approval before a person is
permitted to teach.
D. Board Meetings. If
practical the Sunday School Board should meet at least monthly. If there is
no regular or pressing order of business, the time should be spent in prayer
in behalf of the Sunday School. The Superintendent may call special meetings
if it is deemed necessary, this to be done one (1) week prior to the meeting.
The Superintendent shall preside at all board meetings unless mutually agreed
otherwise, and the Secretary shall record the business considered. All
teachers, assistant teachers, head of departments, and Sunday School officers
shall have the right to vote.
