Church of the Living Christ believes in Biblical education for not only children but adults as well. As a result, we offer a variety of electives courses to try and meet the needs of the congregation. The classes listed below are the six classes being offered for the quarter starting March 4, 2012
Electives for the Quarter beginning March 4, 2012 and ending May 27, 2012
Doing the Right Thing, Applying Christian Principles to Everyday Life
Teacher: Steve Kowalewski
One of the best ways to share our faith is to demonstrate those very things Christ teaches us in our everyday interaction with the world. The way we handle ourselves in the midst of turmoil or adversity can sometimes be a much more powerful witness for our Savior than the words we speak. Recently I was reminded how poignant of a witness our actions can have on those around us. A few weeks ago I had the privilege of watching the movie Courageous with my family. In one particular scene of the movie, Javier Martinez, has an opportunity for a significant job promotion. During the interview for the position, the owner of the company tells Javier that the job is his if he is willing to lie on an inventory report. Rather than do what is easy, Javier makes a decision to stand for Christ even if the consequences mean losing his job. As I prepared for this class, that scene in the movie reminded me that “walking the talk” in our Christian life can be really hard. This interactive class will explore what it means to be a Christian and how we are called to live our life to a radically different standard from the fallen world around us.
Living in the Fullness of God’s Grace – Assured by God
Teacher: Steve Hynes
Nothing stimulates Christian service more than humble assurance of God’s saving grace. Many of us live in constant doubts about our salvation or, worse, a false security. Is assurance of salvation reserved for the super-spiritual? What are the benefits of assurance and the dangers of an unsure faith? Separating truth form error and viewing assurance in relation to its larger family of biblical doctrines. Come and join this interactive class to seek some answers to the question of assurance of salvation.
New Attendees Class
Teacher: David McMillen
If you are new to CLC and are interested in the doctrines we believe or how the church is organized or how we got started, come to this class for a roundtable discussion. Each week David will discuss different aspects of the Church beliefs and practical ways you can get involved. If you are interested in joining the church sometime in the future this class is a pre-requisite.
Three Ongoing Classes:
Young Married Class
Leaders: Kurtz and Pamela Cockley
This class is designed for married couples in the early years of marriage and engaged couples. Our goal is to help equip couples to successfully face common marital issues in order to help them lay down a solid foundation for the creation of a Godly home and marriage. Through teaching, discussion, fellowship, and mutual encouragement, we will cover a variety of topics focused on honoring the Lord in our marriage and family relationships.
Men’s Fraternity
Teacher: Pastor Doran Wray
Leaders: Randy Milligan, Tom Bell Sr., Kirk Stone, Cary Riggs & Ted Williams
Men Fraternity is a program concentrated on helping men become men modeled on Christ’s model of what masculinity is and directed by the Word of God. Our goal here is to be the men that God has called us to be and as we apply the Word we become the authentic man of God that we can be as Spirit filled, Biblical, Christian men.
55 and Older Class
Teacher: Ben Stewart
If you 55 and older and want a group of peers you can discuss life issues with along with interesting and challenging Bible studies that applies to our age group, come on out and join us. This quarter’s study will be based on a book entitled, “Radical Together”, written by David Platt. He is pastor of the Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, Alabama. We will be exploring how can we in the church best unleash the people of God, in the Spirit of God, with the Word of God, for the glory of God in the world? We will be looking at the following six ideas in response to that question:
1. One of the worst enemies of Christians can be good things in the church.
2. The gospel that saves us from work saves us to work.
3. The Word does the work.
4. Building the right church depends on using all the wrong people.
5. We are living-and longing-for the end of the world.
6. We are selfless followers of a self-centered God.
